Step 2: Brainstorm Content
Now you’ve decided on a niche, the next step in the how to make money with a blog for beginners is to brainstorm a whole bunch of content ideas. There’s two reasons why doing this is important.
You will want to have a lot of ideas at your disposal so that you’re not wondering or worrying about what you should be writing about.
#2: Refine & Organise
This ensures that your blog is refined and all of your content or organised into different categories.
You don’t have to publish everything all in one go. Within WordPress you can enter all of the posts and keep them in draft mode until you have refined the posts and you are ready to publish them.
Step 3: Setting Up The Blog
Step number three is actually setting up the blog. There’s a number of different things that you need to do in order to get your blog up and running.
- Web Hosting
- Domain Name
- Install WordPress
- Blog Theme
- Email Marketing Service
First off you need hosting. Hosting is basically a service that has your blog on it so that people from all over the world can go online and access your blog. My recommendations for web hosting are…
The second thing you’ll need is a domain name. A domain name is your web address, for example, mine domain name for here is chrisburston.com. Your domain can be anything you like providing the domain name is free and available. You can get the domain when purchasing your hosting. So first of all use the same links as as the web hosting section above and choose your domain from there.
The third thing you need to do is install WordPress. There are many platforms available but WordPress is by far the best option. It provides so many options, is very flexible and it’s completely free.
The fourth thing you need to do is choose a theme. A theme is the main structure and feel of your website. You install a theme inside the WordPress dashboard and you can customize the colours and menus among other things. You are making your website look a certain way which is going to give you a framework so that you’re not coding things from scratch.
If you search inside your WordPress dashboard, you can search for free themes. here are also a number of different sites where you can purchase premium themes. Obviously these are better quality, but the free themes are great when starting out.
Email Marketing Service
The final thing you will need is to sign up to an email marketing platform. Now, this is not absolutely essential at the start, and you can get going without this but I would highly recommend building your list right from the start. You probably aren’t going to be marketing anything right away but an email marketing service will just allow you to collect the email addresses of the people who are reading your blog.
This will allow you to reach out to them on a regular basis remind them about your blog, share new blog posts, and really build a relationship with them. Most email marketing platforms have a 30 day free trial. The best platforms are…
- Aweber: https://www.aweber.com/
2. GetResponse: https://www.getresponse.co.uk/
3. ConvertKit: https://convertkit.com/
How the email marketing platforms work is, you pay as small fee per month, and that fee rises as your subscribers rise. For example, let’s take a look at Aweber’s pricing.
As you can see, the monthly pricing ranges depending on how big your subscriber list is. This is more than worth the investment. For example, by time you get a few thousand subscribers, you should be earning money online and from your blog. But there is another option and it’s called Profit Eagle.
Profit Eagle is a software where you can build entire funnels, collect emails, plus much more! You can collect up to 10,000 emails with no monthly fee, and there is even an option to upgrade to unlimited emails. No monthly fees are involved, it’s purely just a one off payment. Step 4: Start Blogging
Step four is to actually start blogging. This is where you’re actually going to be writing blog posts and then putting them onto your website. A lot of you might really enjoy the process of designing the blog and making it look how you want. For others they may not enjoy writing content for their blogs. For those people who don’t enjoy writing, you have two different options.
- Outsourcing: You can outsource your writing to freelancers on platforms such as fiverr or People Per Hour. This can get very expensive.
- Automated Content: This is a secret strategy which I will reveal soon.
Step 5: Traffic
Step number five in How To Make Money With a Blog For Beginners is to drive traffic to your blog. When it comes to traffic you have two different option.
- Free Traffic
Advantages: 100% Free and no budget needed
Disadvantages: Takes a lot of your own time and takes a while to see results
- Paid Traffic
Advantages: Generates results a lot faster!
Disadvantages: You will need a budget to start with
For a lot of other bloggers that I know (including myself) two of the best FREE traffic sources are YouTube and Pinterest. Both of these are completely free, and it may take a while before you see results, but if you consistently post content every day, it will create a snowball effect that will generate traffic for years to come!
When it comes to paid traffic, a lot of people are fearful of this. You do not have to be afraid when it comes to paid traffic. Yes you can lose money, but if you know what your doing, with the correct program and guidance, you can make a lot of money fast using paid traffic.
Step 6: Engage With Your Audience
Step number six is to engage with your audience. People come to your website, they read an article and then they just leave and completely forget about you. Even if they thought your article was great, there’s just so many distractions in today’s world competing for their attention.
You need to build a lasting relationship with them by responding to comments on social media and building an email list and emailing them on a weekly basis. This will continue to build that trust and relationship with them and show your a real person, rather than just landing on a static blog post and then nothing happens after that.
Step 7: Making Money
Step number seven is where you actually get into the making money part. There are many different ways you can make money from your blog. I’m not going to go into great detail about this, as there are other articles on this site which will help you with that. But below you will find a quick list of ways you can make money form your blog.
- Pay Per Click Advertising
- Cost Per Mile Advertising
- Advertising Space
- Affiliate Marketing
- Product Reviews
- Create & Sell Your Own Product
- Be a Consultant
- Membership Site
- Online Shop
- CPA Networks
For me, by far the best option for making money is with Affiliate Marketing. There are a number of Affiliate Marketing articles on this site, but for a more complete structure and further education, I would highly recommend these two options.
