Simple Steps To Starting A Mommy Blog And Making Money
In this article I’m gonna show you how to start a mommy blog and make money for beginners. I’m gonna show you how you can set up your WordPress blog and have it ready to make your first post today. The process will be broken down into simple steps that you can easily follow, even beginners.
The two things we need when creating a website or a blog are…
- Web hosting
- A domain name
There’s no getting around this, every website needs a domain name and hosting. So what exactly are they. A domain name is like for example youtube.com and facebook.com and is the address of the website you go into you have to come up and think of one of those for your website.
Web hosting is basically a server or a place to store all of the contents of your website so it can be shown to the public. The good news is nowadays getting web hosting and a domain is really simple and very cheap. Here’s a list of some of the best hosting providers for 2019.
- A2 Hosting
Bluehost is actually the official hosting of WordPress so we will use this as the example. They also have 24/7 support which is a great bonus. If something goes wrong or your site goes down, you can just jump onto the live chat and resolve the issue.
They also allow you within their package to get a free domain name on top of the fact that you can install WordPress to Bluehost within around five seconds with a one-click installation process.
Head on over to Bluehost and click get started now and it’s going to take you to the pricing plans that they have available. Bluehost offer competitive prices starting at just $3.95 per month which is cheaper than a cup of coffee.
The cheaper plan is obviously very basic which allows you to host just one website. But as a beginner, this is all you will need. You can always upgrade as your business progresses and as you earn more money.
The next step is to create a domain name. You need to do a little research on this and make sure the domain matches whatever niche or topic your blog is going to be based around. There are a number of different tools to search to see if a domain is available. One of the ones I use is the Godaddy name checker.
You can get domains for very cheap. Especially for the first 12 months. They do go up in price after that but even then you will only be paying something like $10 or so per year.
You can also obviously use Blue Hosts inbuilt domain checker tool.
Once you give them your billing information type out your name and address and then scroll down to get the package information. Here we can choose how long we want the website. The minimum is 12 months so if you want the cheapest option right now, click on twelve months and then renew it every year.
If you scroll a bit further down Bluehost are going to try and sell you some extra add-ons. You can untick pretty much all of the options but the one you may want to consider is domain privacy protection. What that’s going to do is cover up all your personal information. If anyone did a huge look-up on your domain that’s quite nice to know that you’ve got some privacy if anyone was to look you up.
Scroll down enter in your card details and continue to the next step so congratulations welcome to Bluehost. When your payment’s gone through you click no thanks on payment sphere because we won’t be using that now you should see a page here where asks you to create a password. Click the green create your password box and enter in a password for your website.
Make sure this is unique and no one else can guess it because if they do they’re going to be able to jump onto your website and edit all of the contents. Once you’ve done that click next and then login. The Bluehost set up will now ask you to pick a theme. You can just scroll down and click skip on this because we will manually pick a theme later. WordPress is now installing so just wait for that.
When it’s done installing you can either click start building or go to my Bluehost account. Go ahead and click on my Bluehost account. Here on the Bluehost account you can see you have the domain here. You can also click log into WordPress and it’s going to take you straight on to you website. If it doesn’t load the first time just give it a couple of minutes and refresh. You just need to give it some time for the domain name and the hosting to link together.
Once the websites loaded you are in the backend of your website. To get here for future reference all you need to do is type in your domain name forward slash WP dash admin and then use the username and password that you just created. An easy way to do this which I do myself is save the link as a document on your phone or in Google docs.
Once inside WordPress you will have to answer a few questions such as site title and description. You can always click skip on this as you can change all of these details later. They will also recommend some things you can add to your site for example Jetpack. Jetpack basically gives you more statistics about your website’s visitors and it’s good for checking who’s coming to your website and where they’re coming from.
If you want you can connect your website with jetpack to do that just click on the button that says connect to wordpress.com then create an account by typing in your email address and a password.
Once you’re done and it’s connected to jetpack you can go back to your website. your web hosting and domain is now all set up now we can get on to customize our actual website. Now you can continue to customize the rest of your website to get it looking how you want it.
The first thing to look at is picking a WordPress theme. The site I personally use for my themes is https://themeforest.net . This site contains premium themes and you can pay anywhere between $30 – $60 per theme. They are well worth the investment as they are very professional looking themes. But if you do not want to make that initial investment, you can also get some very good free themes.
If you want to look at someof the best free themes for WordPress, you can check out an article I wrote called Best Free WordPress Theme For Blogging.
The theme is basically a whole packaged up bundled up file which tells your website how you want it to look. It is also very easy to install. Simply go to Apperance >> Themes >> Click the “Add New” button and then upload the zip file of your new theme. Once it’s finished, simply click activate.
If it’s a free theme you are looking for, go to Apperance >> Themes. Scroll down and click “add theme”. If you take a look at the screenshot below you will see that you can choose from lots of different themes in different sections. You can even do a search for a specific theme or keyword.
You can preview the theme by clicking on preview but if you haven’t got any content on your website you’re not really going to be able to see how the theme is going to look.
Each theme has it’s very own unique options, so it would be impossible to put full details on how to customize your theme in this post. If you need help with your theme you can either drop me a message or just go to the help and tutorial section of whichever theme you downloaded.
The next step is to start removing things you do not want. For example, in the posts section you will see a post titled “Hello World” which is a sample post on every new theme. You can completely remove this post as you will be adding your own posts.
You can then go to Appearance >> Widgets and start removing anything you do not need in the sidebar.
Adding your first blog post is very simple! Click on “posts” in the left hand menu, then click “Add New”.
If you see the screenshot above you will be presented with a page that looks like this. Where it says “Enter title here” you will enter the title of your blog post. In the large white box underneath, this is where you well enter the content of your blog post by simply typing in the box.
You can also add images by clicking on the “Add Media” button and uploading photos on to your site which can then be inserted into your blog posts. To publish your post, all you have to do is click the “Publish” button over on the right hand side. If it’s a long article that you can not finish in one go, you can simply click the “Save Draft” option. The post will not show up on your site and you can finish and edit the post at a later date.
You will also want to know how you can start earning money from your blog. Again this is hard to answer in this post as everybody will have blogs setup in various different niches, but it is all based on the same concept. You can sign up to various different affiliate programs in your niche and promote these programs in different ways using your blog.
You can write articles and drop your affiliate links within the articles. You can use banner ads within your articles or sidebar. Each time somebody clicks on one of your affiliate links and purchases, you will get a certain percentage of the sale.
You can also monetize your blog using Google adsense, Amazon affiliate program, CPA plus many more. There’s an article on this site titles “How To Make Money Blogging” which will show you how to make money from your blogs. You can view the article here
